Burnt Bridges

The first thing that hit me on viewing this was a profound sense of loneliness and isolation. Of course, that's your intention but I thought I'd throw it out there that this really hits hard from first glance.

Obviously, the content is heavy on the loneliness imagery - not just the face that this person is alone but the bridges around them have been destroyed. Your title is "burned bridges" but to me they look more... collapsed. The burning is not at all evident and I wouldn't have thought of that without the title so perhaps that's an area in which this could be improved?

The structure on which the person sits looks like it's a natural rock growth but the bridges look like they're part of that structure despite being so flat and smooth. Also, rock wouldn't fracture and splinter that way so it doesn't really look right. I think this would look a lot better for the addition of girders or something propping the bridges up from below to distinguish them from the rocky growth.

So yeah, the bridges themselves... I'm not sure the imagery there is consistent but, hey, it's a speed painting so you probably didn't have time to consider that too rigorously. I really love the casting of the shadow, it really adds to the solitude here and defines your light source (which is consistent with the light on the rocky structure and the shadows it casts so that's really great).

I really like the choice of colours here. The black-white-red combination (particularly with the shade of red used) gives a bleak atmosphere which heightens that emptiness and isolation even more.

The idea itself is perhaps a little clichéd but you've put your own stamp on it in terms of the style of painting which really makes up for that, in my opinion.

So in summary, I think this great from most perspectives, just a little nitpicking about the bridges and the slightly cliché nature of the metaphor. Still very powerful and emotive though.
